The world champion boxer boyfriend of Bollywood movie star Amy Jackson has denied assaulting the actress.

Joe Selkirk has been charged with pushing model and actress Amy Jackson to the ground in an argument in the early hours of the morning.

The European light-middleweight title holder is set to appear before magistrates next week.
But unbeaten professional boxer Selkirk, 28, insists he is innocent and said he and Miss Jackson, 23, fast becoming a household name in India, were still together.

Prosecutors allege he assaulted Miss Jackson following a row outside the plush Malmaison hotel in Liverpool city centre, at around 4am on December 12.

Mr Selkirk said: "I am confident I will be cleared of the charge in court and can get on with my life and focus on my boxing.”

Miss Jackson, who was discovered by an Indian film director after winning a beauty contest, has become one of the top names in Bollywood.

Her last film, Yevadu – which translates as “Who is he?” – was a box office smash upon its release in January.

The film star splits her time between Liverpool and Chennai, is currently filming in northern Sweden.
She was unavailable for comment.

Mr Selkirk won the World Boxing Organisation European light-middleweight title last year.
He is currently 12th in the WBO rankings and, following a hand operation, is preparing for his next fight in late April or early May.

Selkirk, who is charged with a Section 39 assault, is currently on conditional bail.
