Bollywood actor Deven Verma takes his last breath

Veteran Bollywood character actor, director and producer Deven Verma died early on Tuesday following a heart attack and kidney failure, family sources said. He was 77.

He is survived by his wife Rupa Ganguly, the younger daughter of the late legendary actor Ashok Kumar.

Verma breathed his last around 2 a.m. at his home in Pune, the city of his birth from where he graduated in politics and sociology before joining the film industry. 

He is best remembered for roles in movies such as “Angoor”, “Chori Mera Kaam”, “Andaz Apna Apna”, “Bemisal”, “Judaai”, “Dil To Paagal Hai”, and “Kora Kagaz”.

The funeral will be performed on Tuesday afternoon at the Yerawada crematorium.

The job is tough and risky with long hours, but everyone wants to hold on to their pay cheque and so Dilip keeps quiet when he notices managers at the plant ignoring safety standards. The negligence at Union Carbide led to the leakage of methyl isocyanate which killed thousands of people. Tens of thousands of people still suffer from illnesses caused by the exposure to this gas.

One thing leads to another and they end up spending the entire day together. They fight, they argue, they laugh and share a lifetime of emotions in one day. When they meet in the morning they are strangers with strong biases about Mumbai & Delhi, when they part in the evening, the biases have turned into affection for each other’s quirks and finally, love.

Why should you watch: While Marathi films are usually adapted from Hindi scripts (Not necessarily always), Satish Rajawade decided to do the rarer task of creating a Hindi film based upon one in Marathi. Using his popular Marathi film Mumbai Pune Mumbai as the template, he reworked the original film to give it a wider national appeal. This might make for an interesting watch.

Salman Khan NOT interested in ‘Bigg Boss 8′?

He might be seen employing his charm, as the debonair host (read captain), all set to take the contestants on a …err ride, to guaranteed results in the promos of Bigg Boss 8, but the fact remains that Salman Khan was just not into the show’s forthcoming season. “I did not want to do ‘Bigg Boss 8‘ because it is too tiring and painful. I have my own set of problems and here I am solving 10-12 problems of others. These people involve me and somehow I get involved. But if you see something you have to take a stand,” said the 48 year old megastar in an interview.

Clearly, Salman was hinting at the accusations that were hurled at him for allegedly being on the sides of Armaan Kohli and Tanishaa Mukerji. So what exactly brought bhai back to this edition, we wondered. “I came back because I liked the format. Photographers boycott Salman's 'Bigg Boss 8' press meet

Photographers, who have decided to boycott events of actor Salman Khan, were Friday missing from his press conference to announce `Bigg Boss` season 8.

Asked if was missing the photographers, Salman said: "What can I do... I can't force anyone. I have not stopped them from taking my pics... they have banned me and taken a stand. All I can say is do it quitely, respectfully and not like 'macchi (fish)' market."

To a query if he will try and make peace with the photographers, he said: "I don't have a problem, they got angry. I think they should make peace with themselves."

We will promote ‘Happy New Year’ on Bigg Boss: Salman Khan

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan says he would love to have the cast of Happy New Year on his TV show 'Big Boss 8' to promote their film.

               

The upcoming season of the show will start from September 21 on Colors and with Shah Rukh Khan's action comedy drama film set for an October release, speculations have started that whether the 'Chennai Express' star, will share the stage with Salman to promote the movie.

"We will do a lot of promotions of 'Happy New Year'. The team does not need to worry. Though it is up to them if they want to come to the show or not, we will promote it," said Salman at the launch of 'Big Boss 8' here today.

               

The 48-year-old 'Kick' star also joked that the promotional activity of 'Happy New Year' has already started, with reporters asking him if he will invite Shah Rukh and others on 'Big Boss'.

               

Salman has shown support for the movie previously also by praising its trailer on Twitter.

               

"Just saw happy new year ka promo. Its kick ass," the 'Dabangg' star had tweeted.

               

The two superstars, who had a public fall out in 2008, have been seen warming up to each other in the recent past, from praising each other in interviews to sharing warm greetings at parties.

               

Salman, who is known for going out of his way to promote his friends' films, said that he will talk drunk to promote his close pal Aamir Khan's 'PK'.

               

Salman had donned a hat in Big Boss's last season to campaign for Aamir's 'Dhoom 3', as the actor wore a hat in the film.

The Bigg Boss Kannada 2 house was quite after Aadhi's shock exit from the house. Neetu was missing her close friend, while others were busy with their daily routine. Santhosh expressed his displeasure to Deepika about what happened on Saturday.

The next day morning Deepika reconciled with Santhosh and they decided not to fight again. Santhosh had just tried to patch up things with her in the morning.

Bigg Boss gave a one day task to the participants. The house was divided into 2 teams and they had to play tug of war. Akul and Santhosh were made the captain. They had to play one single, one double and one team match. Akul's team won all the three match and was declared the winner.

Salman Khan's 'Bigg Boss 8' inspired by 'Big Brother 15'?

It's been quite sometime that we got to know that the eighth edition of the controversial reality show, 'Bigg Boss' will have aircraft as the major theme. From Salman Khan dressed up like a pilot to news floating about the new Bigg Boss house being designed like an aircraft, all theories are pointing towards the same.

Few days back, a Salman Khan fan club posted the inside pictures of the Bigg Boss house which showed the house designed more like an airport with flight details and surroundings. But the pictures posted were not from 'BB 8' but of 'Big Borther 15', the show which is the original version of 'Bigg Boss'.

Aswini Chopra, on the other hand, has alleged that Rao Inderjit Singh wanted ticket for her daughter in assembly elections and that he is angry with him because his newspaper supported Modi when he said that relatives of BJP ministers will not be given ticket. Chopra also accused Rao of harboring ambitions of becoming CM of Haryana.

Being her usual self, Sonam's way to drape lehenga was far from what is traditionally worn. She beautifully played up with jewelery too; a matching maang-tika that went along with her earrings and a statement neckpiece. 

Sonam enjoyed her heart-out and danced endlessly to her latest track 'Bum Dole' from her upcoming movie 'Khoobsurat'.

This was a special occasion for Sonam as apart from being her friend, Namrata is the girl behind some of most stunning looks flaunted by Sonam so far.  

Sonam had been keeping busy with promotions of her upcoming flick 'Khoobsurat' starring alongside Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. The movie is all set to release on September 19.

Woman's body is a temple, says Union Minister Harsh Vardhan, social media outraged

Union Health Minister seems to have developed a knack for getting into controversy through his remarks. This time he is finding himself in the firing line over her description of a woman’s body as a temple.

"A woman's body is a temple, extremely important from the perspective of a nation's future. Building a new generation of healthy women has a salutary effect on family, society and nation because each woman multitasks as professional in her chosen field, mother and teacher of her children, and, above all,custodian of collective values," said Harsh Vardhan.

The Union Minister also cautioned against slimming through excessive gym workouts and starvation routines.

Harsh Vardhan made these remarks while addressing the golden jubilee celebrations of a women's college in the Capital Thursday.

His statement created storm on social media with netizens questioning the objectionable language of the minister.

"A woman's body is not a temple belonging to the nation. Her health is important for her own sake, not for 'family, society, nation', because she's not born to serve 'family, society, nation,” protested people on social media.

Activist Kavita Krishnan protested on Facebook by saying in her post, “And why tell young women that it's natural and glorious for women to 'multitask' as professional as well as 'mother and teacher of her children' any more than for men and dads to do so?"

Harsh Vardhan has been courting controversies from the very beginning of his tenure as Union HEALTH Minister. He was slammed for saying that AIDS awareness messages laid too much stress on the use of condoms and not on values and fidelity.

Supreme Court stays proceedings of panel probing judge's sexual harassment

The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the probe into allegations of sexual harassment by a former Gwalior district judge against a sitting judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The composition of the committee, set up by the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court, was objected to by the woman judge saying that it included a judge who had transferred her out of Gwalior.

An apex court bench headed by Justice J.S. Kehar also issued notice to the high court judge and the registrar general of Madhya Pradesh High Court after senior counsel Indira Jaising urged the appointment of a fresh committee comprising two chief justices of high courts and a judge to probe the allegations of sexual harassment.

Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie to do sex scenes in their next film

Hollywoods star couple stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are preparing to film some crazy sex scenes in their upcoming movie “By The Sea”.

The couple, who got together after filming “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”, are currently preparing to start filming upcoming romantic drama in Malta, and an on-set source has revealed they are going to get very intimate in front of the cameras, reports usmagazine.com.

The new film, which is being written and directed by the 39-year-old bride-to-be, will see Pitt and Jolie act out some steamy scenes just a short walk from where their family is staying on the picturesque Mediterranean island.

The couple will be filming the scenes in Mgarr ix-Xini Bay in Gozo, which is around 50 miles south of the Italian island of Sicily, with the shoot set to last around 10 weeks.

It's thought that the secluded pebble beaches of the region and clear waters make it the ideal setting for underwater filming.

Yo Yo Honey Singh’s wife calms him down on the sets of India’s Raw Star (see candid pics)

Yo Yo Honey Singh has finally put the curtains off from his much controversial married life. The rapper-singer recently introduced his wife, Shalini on the sets of his popular show, India’s Raw Star.

Apparently, Honey Singh felt a bit nervous and edgy following the release of his ‘Desi Kalakaar’ and stopped the shoot of India’s Raw Star. The singer-turned-actor then resumed the shoot of the episode only when his wife turned over the sets to calm him off.

According to the sources, Shalini took a few minutes and had a word with hubby Honey Singh and everything happened to be fine thereafter. Mr. Singh looked completely eased off and the shoot was resumed.

The episode which has been lined-up to air soon will also show the man praising his wife thoroughly. "She is my friend and I will always listen to her no matter what because today I have realised that she is very important and always right about everything,” the rapper said. 

Mrs Yo Yo Honey Singh, who was casually dressed up in a black tank and jeggings looked ‘cool’ blending herself with the image of her ‘cool’ husband.  

It is not that long when charges claiming that Honey Singh has denied being married surfaced all over the media. And the whole ‘being married’ controversy garnered enough limelight for the man in his initial popularity days. 

During the shoot of the particular episode of India’s Raw Star, the couple even posed for a few pictures and was caught many a time in various candid moments.

TV actress files molestation charges against co-actor Zakir Khan

A television actress, who works in Doordarshan’s serial ‘Pavitra Bandhan’ has filed a complaint to the Cine and Television Artistes Association accusing her co-actor of molesting her during the shooting of a kidnapping scene.The incident took place on August 3 and according to sources the actor refused to apologise even after she screamed at him twice.  Production house Balaji Telefilms has been asked to take ‘strict action’ against Zakir Khan.She alleged that her co- star, Zakir Khan, misbehaved with her. The scene required three goons to kidnap her after making her unconscious and her co-star tried to touch her chest.

“In the next shot, the three goons had to hold me and Zakir Khan had to make me unconscious. When the shot started, he stood behind me and gagged my mouth with a handkerchief. He kept his other hand on my chest and started rubbing it. I struggled, but the other men had held me so tightly that I couldn’t do anything. After the shot, I yelled at him but he behaved as if nothing had happened,” described the actress in her letter as quoted by a leading daily.

When the woman went up to the production house, they allegedly told her to cooperate and complete the sequence.

“Later, the director wanted a front shot, so I told them I would do it in the presence of a production person. Still, Zakir held my shoulder in a weird manner and I screamed again at him.” Responding to this, Khan, according to the actress, said, “Tum bawaal kyun kar rahi ho, aur tum ho kaun? Aise scene mein kahin pe bhi haath lag sakta hain hai”.

The actress added that Zakir Khan refused to apologise for his actions, and said that he didn’t want to work with her. The actress wanted to go to the police, but the production house stopped her, saying CINTAA would give her justice.

Sudhir Pandey, a committee member of CINTAA, confirmed having received the complaint. “We will call an emergency meeting after going into the details of the complaint. From what we have learnt, it could be a serious matter and strict action will be taken against the member.” When asked about Khan, Pandey added, “There are 6,000 members; we will find out who he is and summon him in the case.”

CINTAA has also written to the producers’ body, Indian Film and Television Producers Council (IFTPC), on August 9 and has  also written to Balaji Telefilms to take strict action against Khan.

Vikas Mohan, senior vice- president, IFTPC, was quoted by a leading daily saying, “It is a shameful thing and we have asked our member producer to take strict against the actor who has misbehaved with the actress.” Ketan Gupta, COO of Balaji Telefilms, was unavailable for comment.

The incident is under consideration and the actress is hopeful that she will get justice.

Priyanka Chopra Refuses ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Actress Priyanka Chopra has been nominated by many to take up the ALS ice bucket challenge, but she doesn’t seem to be interested. 

The challenge involves dumping buckets of ice water over one’s head to spread awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

Apart from Hollywood stars like Tom Cruise, Robert Pattinson and Nicole Kidman accepting it, Bollywood stars like Akshay Kumar, Bipasha Basu and Abhishek Bachchan also took up the challenge. 

But Priyanka is not joining the league.

The link shared by her shows an Australian newsreader Lincoln Humphries, who firmly shuts the idea down. Humphries acknowledged the good that the ice bucket challenge has done, then suggested some other things that can be done to make a difference, including spreading the love around to other deserving causes like cancer and fresh water charities, and not wasting so much ice. 

Earlier, Sonam Kapoor had refused to take up the challenge after being nominated by Fukreyfame Pulkit Samrat. 

“@PulkitSamrat already made a donation!! Not dumping water waste of resources!”, she had tweeted. 

Hollywood actress Pamela Anderson has also refused as she said she can’t support an organisation that does testing on animals.

Bigg Boss Kannada 2: Day 57 Highlights

Day 57 in the Bigg Boss Kannada 2 was quiet. Bullet Prakash left the house on Sunday after it was revealed that he was guest there for only 1 week. Every Monday is the nomination day. On day 57, Bigg Boss gave a new twist in the rules that shocked everyone.

All members nominated
Bigg Boss directly nominated all the participants for elimination. Neetu being the house captain was kept out of the nomination process. The motive behind this move was to bring the best out of everyone in the house in the coming one week.

Truth or Dare
The participants involved themselves in a game of truth or dare. The one who would fail to do the task or ask the question had to drink the water mixed with red chillies powder. Srujan was the only one who refused to do the task assigned to him and drank the spicy water.

Santhosh wants to marry Deepika
Santhosh was the only one who took the option of truth. When asked who he would like to marry among all the female contestants of the house, he chose Deepika's name. Neetu had to do a romantic dance as a part of her dare and she chose to do it with Aadhi.

One day task given
The participants were given a one day task called "Shsss". The participants were asked not to speak during the task and to what was instructed. All the members were given a card. The one who gets the card had to take one card from the board and do the task that was assigned to them.

Salman Khan's pricey tales: Rs.3.5 cr for an inauguration?

If reports are to be believed Salman Khan has demanded Rs.3.50 crore for inaugurating a banquet hall in London.

The story goes, a NRI business family approached the superstar to inaugurate its banquet in London. The family in fact wants Salman to participate in the two-day event, perform and meet guests.
 

It is being reported that Salman demanded Rs.3 crore and Rs.50 lakh for his staff's travel and accommodation, for the event due next month.

The organisers are looking at finalising the deal.

Interestingly, it was recently reported that Salman is charging Rs.5-6 crore per week for Bigg Boss Season 8.

However, Salman's spokesperson denied the story.

Women-centric roles not welcome in Bollywood: Priyanka Chopra

Actress Priyanka Chopra, whose upcoming biopic on boxing champion Mary Kom has generated a lot of interest, said that women-oriented roles are still not welcome in Bollywood.

"Mary Kom is a film obviously about Mary Kom. First and the foremost, women-centric roles are not welcomed in Bollywood," Priyanka said while interacting with the students of Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Ahmedabad here as part of the film's promotion.

"While I was coming here, everybody was telling me that you are doing a fabulous woman-oriented film. When you get to watch PK or Kick do you say that 'I am going to watch a male-oriented film'. Nobody says that," the actress said.


Mary Kom is biopic on the Manipur-based pugilist who has been a five-time world boxing champion and also an Olympic bronze medallist.

During her interaction with students, Priyanka stressed the need to weed out gender bias from Bollywood.

"Things will change for women in Hindi film industry the day when we go and watch a movie after seeing its trailer, without having any gender bias in our minds," she said.

Priyanka said that in a male-dominated society, talent of women is not getting recognised in contrast to their male counterparts.

Directed by Omung Kumar and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival which will be held from September 4 to September 11.
